The Engagement

Maggie had an announcement to make in the car on the way home from KinderCare today. She is engaged - Her friend Carter has agreed to marry her. His mother is Ellie's teacher, Ms Amanda, and she is very nice. Maggie's teacher Ms Cheryl says that Carter is a quiet boy, not the kind who teaches my beautiful daughter to say things like "Shake Your Boo-ty!" and "Purple Dinosaur Poop!" and certainly not the type who tells her about trips to the Monster Truck Show in Portland. No, I'm sure Carter spends his sunny summer weekends reading philosophy texts and pruning his bonsai trees. Anyway, Mags and Carter are getting married - Her father is a bit distressed that the young man did not ask him for her hand. As her mom, I'm just glad to get the whole wedding thing over early, when the guests will be happy with packs of Skittles, cupcakes and juice boxes at the reception...
